6 Reviews of the Filey 6 Classic
By: SeanTC Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2012 Rating:
This is a really good tent, great space and really good size rooms, with the added extension for storage. It is heavy but goes up really easily. It misses out on 10 out of 10 as some of the velcro on the front windows is poorly done. I done a lot of research and this ticked all the boxes for us. Grab one while you can - a polycotton tent under £700
Family of 4 (2 adults & 2 small children under 4)

Okay, she's heavy. Okay, the front curtains would have been better with zips, like the side windows, rather than velcro. And maybe the designers could have put in a 'proper' front door, whilst retaining the fully opened up frontage option. But I really must reiterate all the oohs, aahs, and wows that have already been expressed below. She is bloody magnificent!
I can't really come up with anything that hasn't already been said. Easy to put up, considering the size and weight. Lines up perfectly with the footprint, without tugging and yanking at it to make sure it's covered properly!
We have tables, chairs, camp beds, camping wardrobe/hanging rail, larder/cupboard, cool boxes, loo bucket (we put that in the 'west wing'!) etc inside, cooker, stand, table and stools outside in the canopy, and I swear, if the weather turns sour next weekend, the local village will still come to me first, before asking the local scout hut to host the summer fete indoors! :-) Talk about roomy!
There's a massive difference in temperature, when compared to a poly tent. Warmer at night, cooler in the day/sunshine, and even cooler in the bedpod for a siesta!
It's dark in the bedpod, bright in the living area without the roof liner, but we opted to keep the liner up all the time, as it's still light enough due to the massive windows, and it adds to the insulation properties. It's quieter, more beautiful, more graceful. Hey, it makes you feel like the Lord of the manor!
The only downfall is that this site only allows ratings up to ten!
Save up if need be. But do not miss out on owning one of these, otherwise, you will leave this mortal coil with regrets!
As Len's elder brother would say. 'TEN!'

The lady wife and I decided to upgrade our tent to 'luxury' level and after much consideration settled on the Filey6 classic. GREAT decision, just put it up in the garden and spent the nigh in it. Neighbours thought we were nuts. 'don't care!
This really is a great tent, I think the designer actually goes camping.
The layout is excellent and the quality of design and manufacture is really excellent.
It heaved it down during the afternoon and not a drop leaked in anywhere. The poly cotton really makes a big difference over the nylon one we had before, nice and cool in the sun.
I will do a full report on our first real outing and might do a video of the putting up if anybody's interested.

Just an update on the Kampa Filey 6 Classic having camped in it for 5 nights now in torrential rain. It's still perfect! I will be buying the vestibule but it doesn't detract from the 10/10 rating, it's just the rain was so bad the bits we had left in the canopy area did get wet but that was our own fault. When the sun did occasionally come out we did notice the difference in temperature in the tent compared to our neighbours polyester tents, and that was just at 18 degrees. So well worth the investment. We were pleased with the Kampa Filey footprint; having read bad reviews I was worried but needn't have been, it was great and helped with both weather and pitching. We bought the Outwell Montana 6 carpet in Mocha because it matched the tent and couldn't believe how perfectly it fitted - no cutting or folding needed, right down to the bedroom pod clip fitting into the slot of the carpet! We appreciated the zip up curtains on the sides and the ceiling insulating curtain, which we left up the whole time as we had so much light in through the windows. Having fussed about the 3+3 set up in the bedrooms beforehand, we ended up opening up the pods to one large bedroom, which we preferred! It was nice to be able to do that and not worry about the beds being over zips, which I understand was a problem on earlier models. We camped with friends inthe new Montana 6P (my favourite tent if not going polycotton) , the Kampa Studland 8 Classic (a great tent for a large family), an Outwell ? Reef and 2 x Outwell Bear lake 6s and I didn't regret our decision on the Kampa Filey 6 Classic for one moment. It took one hour to put up and just 37 minutes to put down, including taking out carpet and bed pods. Not bad for the first trip out of the garden!

I have to agree with Karen above, so won't reiterate all of her points about this fantastic tent, but we are absolutely over the moon with it. Progressed from an Outwell Winfield Plus (6 man) - the layout of this tunnel tent suits us much more with growing kids and the option to add a further pod at the front (but tricky to come by) is very appealing. We pitched it in the garden this eve so are yet to take it away (I will update after sleeping in it!). We followed the instructions with the tent (I wanted YouTube, hubby said no.). Dead easy. Only instruction missing was the central ceiling inside pole but it seemed easy enough to do. We are going to leave the insulating ceiling piece up day and night as it doesn't detract from the daylight. I paid £490 for ours (polycotton and brand new) so keep looking on auction sites for a bargain!

WOW ! What a tent. We cant believe how easy this tent goes up considering the size and weight of the tent in its bag. Anyway we followed the pitching instructions from you tube and so easy. The living space is a great size ,plenty of room for a few units, table with stools and our 4 large chairs. Bedrooms are a good size and are in a darker material to help with those bright mornings, plenty of storage pockets in them, there is also a sheet of darker material to put up in the living area at night too. Also there are two cable entries ,one either side of the tent. Great size room on the side,we will use it for our toilet and a storage unit.Great porch on the front that comes with a groundsheet, ideal for that bit of shelter in the evenings. The only wincy little niggle I have is the curtains on the front windows are attached with velcro and not zipped like the rest of the windows, so making them a little saggy .Don't let this stop you buying this wonderful tent that is me being really petty. We noticed how much warmer the polycotton felt and well worth the extra pennies for that.We also have the vestibule so will leave a review in there. Hope this helps you as I have never done a review before. You wont regret it if you take the plunge as we did .
